Disability Access Policy

Our practice is committed to providing fair, respectful, and inclusive dental care to every patient. We aim to ensure that all patients can access information, communicate effectively, and receive treatment that meets their individual needs, free from discrimination.

Our Commitment to Patients

  • You will always be treated with dignity, respect and without discrimination.
  • Your culture, values, beliefs and personal preferences will be acknowledged and respected.
  • We will act honestly, professionally, and in your best interests always.
  • We will create a clean, safe and accessible environment for all patients.
  • We will make reasonable adjustments for disabilities, and if we cannot safely treat you, we will arrange an appropriate referral.

Accessible Information

We follow the principles of the Accessible Information Standard, meaning we will:

  1. Identify your communication or information needs related to disability, impairment, or sensory loss.
  2. Record these needs clearly in your patient notes.
  3. Flag your needs so all staff are aware and can support you appropriately.
  4. Share these needs with other providers when referring or handing over care (with your consent).
  5. Meet your needs by providing information in formats such as:
    • Easy Read
    • Email
    • Braille (if available)
    • Support from interpreters or communication professionals (e.g., BSL)

We will always make sure you receive information you can understand and the communication support you require.

Understanding Your Needs

Patients can expect that we will:

  • Listen to you and take your concerns seriously
  • Respect your culture, background and individual preferences
  • Provide treatment that is safe, appropriate and evidence-based
  • Support you with dental pain and anxiety
  • Explain risks, benefits and alternatives so you can make informed choices
  • Keep accurate notes of any additional needs and seek your consent before sharing information

We will not express personal political, religious or moral beliefs in a way that could cause distress or take advantage of your vulnerability.

Assistance Dogs

  • We welcome guide dogs, hearing dogs and other trained assistance dogs.
  • We ensure the environment remains hygienic and safe for all patients.
  • If you are allergic, immunosuppressed or anxious around dogs, please tell us—we will make alternative arrangements.

Interpreting Services

  • We can arrange professional interpreters for patients who do not speak English well or who use sign language.
  • Interpreter services are provided at no cost to the patient.
  • You may bring a family member or friend as an interpreter only if you request this after being informed that a free interpreter is available.
  • Children will not be used as interpreters.
  • Your preferred communication language will be recorded in your notes.

If You Have Concerns

If you ever feel you have been treated unfairly, please inform the Practice Manager or Registered Manager. Concerns are taken seriously and will be handled respectfully and confidentially.

Our Best. For You
