The Quest For Smoother And Younger Looking Skin

An overview of the facial aesthetic treatments available at our Acton dental practice.
Most people probably associate their dentists with teeth and gum healthcare. While this has always been the prime purpose of practices around the world, there have also been a number of changes over the years, most notably the advent of cosmetic procedures. Along with this have come skin improvement treatments as well.
While treatments such as Botox are available at other clinics, the move to their availability within a dental practice is not only convenient for some patients but also helps to add a level of reassurance to those wanting these treatments. You can be sure that the facial aesthetic clinicians will be fully trained and experienced if they are working within a ‘medical’ environment rather than ‘just’ a beauty parlour. As some people may have been deterred from having these treatments by photos of celebrities who have had less than desirable results from treatments such as lip fillers, it is reassuring to know that mistakes caused by a lack of skill or knowledge, or the provision of extreme treatments will not happen here.
Let us take a look then at the facial aesthetic treatments at the Acton Vale Dental Centre and how they can benefit your appearance and give you smoother and younger looking skin.
Smoother skin
As we slowly emerge from the grey, cold and damp of the winter months, many of us will start to socialise more than we have been doing and will probably also start to think of weekends away and holidays on far away beaches. After winter has ravaged our skin, this can be a good time for looking at ways to give our skin a boost. It may well benefit from moisturiser creams etc, but if your skin is already wrinkled then our wrinkle reduction treatments may be just what you need.
In order to reduce your lines and wrinkles, our trained clinicians use a safe, well known product which is injected just underneath the skin in the areas where it is needed. There is no need for concern at some of the ‘bodged’ results you may have seen in the media; our staff are experienced at carrying out this procedure and we also reserve the right to refuse any treatment that we feel is too extreme.
Our wrinkle reduction injections work by injecting the serum just underneath the skin using a fine needle. This should not cause you any significant discomfort and you should feel little more than a small prick as it enters the skin. The serum then works by relaxing the muscles and smoothing out the wrinkles. You will not have a ‘frozen face’ and will still be able to laugh, frown or smile as before, but with more youthful looking skin.
Within a few days, you should start to notice some initial smoothing of your skin, with the full results being seen after around ten days to a fortnight. This is a general guide and anyone thinking of having this done for a particular event, such as a holiday, is recommended to speak to our facial aesthetics team. It is also worth noting that there may be some minor bruising in the area of the injection so you might want to factor this in too if you have any social engagements planned.
Fuller lips
One issue that many people find as they get older is that their lips in particular start to lose volume and look ‘thinner’. This is due to the loss of collagen as the years go by. This normally provides fullness and elasticity and can affect the way that we look.
To reverse this effect, patients can have the lost collagen replaced using dermal fillers. These are injected under the skin in a similar way to the wrinkle reduction ones. Again, this process takes a few weeks for the full effects to be seen but can make a real improvement to your appearance. Dermal fillers can not only be used on the lips but also on the cheeks, chin, nose and marionette lines which are the lines from the corners of the mouth to the chin.
While some people have anti wrinkle or dermal filler as a standalone treatment, some also take advantage of our cosmetic dental procedures to look their very best for their special occasions. The addition of whiter teeth, for example, to younger looking and smoother skin can really transform your appearance for your wedding, holiday or whatever purpose you are having them for.
We do understand that some people might have concerns about facial treatments and our clinicians are always happy to discuss any concerns that you might have. They will also be able to help guide you towards the best treatment to help you achieve your aims.
