Cosmetic Dentistry In Acton Vale – Our Latest Services Update

A healthy mouth is essential, but an attractive smile can really improve your confidence too!

Perfect smileWelcome to our latest blog. Over time, we will discuss the various dental treatments that we have on offer at our local clinic, along with topical news and information which we feel will be of benefit to our patients.

At the Acton Vale Dental Centre, we believe in a preventative approach to oral care and a lot of our posts will be about ways that you can improve your own gum, teeth and mouth health.

Inevitably though, some of our patients will, from time to time, require treatment to restore a damaged or decayed tooth and we will discuss that too.

Today’s blog, though, offers a brief introduction to some of the cosmetic dentistry treatments that we provide here. More and more people want to have not only healthy teeth and gums, but a great looking smile too. We hope that you find this brief introduction helpful, and we will discuss these treatments in more detail in the months to come.

Teeth whitening

Most of you will have heard of this treatment and it is now widely used by a large number of people. Although it is perhaps best known for ‘celebrity smiles’ it is an affordable and relatively long lasting treatment that is now available to a wider range of people. We use the highly popular and successful Enlighten teeth whitening treatment which allows you to whiten teeth in the comfort of your own home. Full advice on how to do this will be provided by us and you can be sure that we are always available should you have any questions during the course of the treatment. It is a fast acting treatment with full results being seen in approximately two weeks.

Dental implants

If you have lost a tooth, or a number of teeth, you may believe that your only option to replace them are dentures. For a number of reasons, these are not always a popular choice. The good news is that the high quality dental implants that we offer provide a stronger and more secure alternative to dentures and, once placed and integrated into the mouth, will provide you with many years of strong healthy replacement teeth that are also straightforward to look after. We will discuss the details of this treatment in a future blog.

Invisalign

Too many people are deterred from doing anything about their crooked teeth because they don’t wish to wear braces. One of the main factors for this is their visibility. If this applies to you, why not take a look at the Invisalign aligners page on our website? This new method of straightening teeth offers both a far more (almost invisible) way of having straighter teeth, and one that is also more convenient as they can be removed when you are eating. Straighter teeth are generally healthier teeth too, for reasons that we will discuss in due course.

Veneers

Whilst a teeth whitening procedure is the most obvious and popular choice for anyone wishing to have a whiter and brighter smile, it may not be the most appropriate choice for everyone, especially those whose teeth are more heavily stained or discoloured, or who have minor flaws in their teeth such as small chips and cracks. Where this is the case, porcelain veneers can be used to replace the discoloured or damaged tooth enamel. This does require some minor invasive treatment but offers long lasting results and you can be sure that you are in good hands with our friendly Acton dentists.

White fillings

However much you want to have a great smile, there will be many of us who have had teeth filled using amalgam, the dark looking filling material that has been widely used for many years.  There is a good reason for this as it is a strong and durable material but it also has the disadvantage of being very visible, even in the rear teeth when we laugh or yawn. For a while, white cosmetic fillings were considered to be inferior as although they improved the appearance, they didn’t offer the strength, especially on the rear teeth which do a lot of the work when we are eating. The white fillings that we offer can be produced in a shade to match the rest of your natural tooth rendering them almost invisible.
