Veneers & How They Work<\/span><\/h3>\n

Veneers are extremely thin pieces of porcelain or other material that are custom made to cover a prepared tooth surface. Our dentist near White City<\/a> offers veneers to clients who need them for aesthetic reasons, for example after damaging a front tooth, and clients who request them for aesthetic enhancement of their smile. As with all treatments, a thorough consultation will be carried out to ensure suitability for the treatment. Having veneers is usually straightforward and following a consultation, the dentist will take scans and impressions of your teeth. The process may be completed over two appointments. Typically the teeth will be prepared for the veneers which involves removal of around half a millimetre of enamel from the tooth – the same thickness as the veneers. Your dentist may choose to do this and then attach temporary veneers whilst waiting the two or three weeks for the permanent veneers to be made at a local laboratory.

Before the permanent veneers are attached, your dentist will check it is they are the right fit and trim if necessary. When you are happy with the veneers and the dentist is also happy to go ahead, the teeth are prepared again and a dental cement is applied to the veneer, which is then placed on your tooth. Once attached, a special dental light is used to activate the cement making it set.<\/span><\/p>\n

Any extra cement is removed and you are ready to go with a brand new smile. After a couple of weeks, you are invited for a follow-up appointment to check the positioning of the veneers, to check you are happy with them and to check they are working for you in all the ways you intended. <\/span><\/p>\n

You can have porcelain veneers or veneers made from resin but the porcelain veneers are typically more resilient to stains and are generally more durable. So most patients would choose to have porcelain veneers fitted<\/a> ahead of resin versions as this is generally considered to be the better material.
